Wide and elegant with a clean aftertaste, notes of vanilla, coconut and roasted coffee.

Cherry red, clean and bright. On the nose there are ripe red fruit aromas combined with notes from the ageing (vanilla, cocoa, coffee) and liquorice. On the palate wine is broad and notably fresh. Its soft tannins leave a nice sensation of elegance. Aftertaste is tasty and clean, very pleasant. Serve at 16-18°C. Alcohol: 14%.

Founded in 1926 by José Murúa Villaverde, the winery today has the strength of the experience and vision of its current managers Julián Murúa and his son Javier Murúa. Proud of its winemaking tradition, the town of Elciego is one of the best known and most appreciated nuclei of the Rioja Alavesa. Located near the course of the Ebro River, Elciego has an unmistakable profile, with its old town extending in the shadow of the large church of San Andrés. In the second half of the nineteenth century, here began the production of wine as it is practised today throughout the region.

Location: Vineyards in Elciego (Rioja Alavesa). Climate: Continental Mediterranean, with a strong Atlantic influence. Soil: Clay-limestone soils, organically poor. Variety: Tempranillo, grown in both goblet and trellis-trained systems. Vines are an average of 25 years old. Harvest: mainly by hand, during the second half of September. Fermentation: 15 days in stainless steel tanks. Routines: Daily pumping-over. Ageing: 12 months in oak barrels plus 12 more months in the bottle. 60% of barrels are of American oak and 40% of French oak (40%). Around one third of barrels are new.

Tasting Note

This is an elegant and classical expression of Rioja which balances aromas of ripe red fruit, vanilla, coconut and coffee. Round and smooth on the palate with a weight of red fruit and spice.
